Are you Local or Global?

Are you Local or Global?

I made my first Facebook video in 2009, where I was juggling a football with a Mike Jones hip-hop track in the background.

As a person who has been putting his work online for 14 years, I have finally realized something. But first, a short story.

Jaipur, India.

I was living in Jaipur until I became 17. During those 17 years, everyone I met was local. The food I ate was local. The languages I spoke were local. The relationships I had were local. The only global influence I had was old-school American hip-hop and football. Hence, this video.

After deciding to move out of India when I was 17, I started living in Europe. When you leave your country (even continent in my case) at such a young age and move 5300 km away, everything changes! Totally different people, different food choices, completely different language, different weather, different everything!

But being someone who loves people in general, it was exciting for me to make friends and I made lots of them from around the world. In my university, I used to hang out with a Nigerian, a Portuguese, an Armenian, and a Georgian.

I made some videos in English (for the global audience), then some in Hindi (for the local audience) but never really decided which one to go for. The good thing was that I never gave up. Somehow, I used to always create short videos.

But when I started writing online 5 months ago, I realized that I do not like writing only for the people in my community. I like writing for a global audience and I will always write for a global audience.

Now since I hang out with people from around the world each week, I also cannot go back to living in the same city where I was born.

So ask yourself - Whatever you are creating or want to create, is it for the local people or global?

That's it from me this week. Love you all.
