Do you have Values to Live By?

Do you have Values to Live By?

Naval Ravikant wrote these values for himself when he was around 14 years old and he follows them until now.

This is the most fascinating twitter thread you'll ever read if you're into being fully financially independent.

This begs a question.

What are values? They are hardcore principles you follow and you do not compromise them for anything else. As of now,

💡
These are the 7 hardcore values I live by:
  1. When I was 20 years old, I decided that I will live by my own means and I will not ask for any money from my mom. Since 2016, I have been living totally off the money I earn by my own.
  2. I brush my teeth twice a day and I always floss before I sleep. I've been flossing everyday since October 2018. Of course I have missed a few days, but you get the point.
  3. I do not eat anything sweet or anything that has artificial sugar in it. I consume less than 33 grams of sugar a day.
  4. I keep my phone away from me 1 hour before sleeping and I also do not touch it for an hour after waking up. I have been following this since 2.5 years. There are minor failures in following this value time to time.
  5. I am going to a Polish Language School regularly since 8 months and I finally see some progress. A lot of Polish people have recently pointed out that I have improved a lot compared to last year.
  6. On January 8th 2023, I decided to write every week on my website and I have been doing it regularly. Feel free to check by scrolling to the bottom of my homepage. Since then, it has been 30 weeks and what you are reading currently will be my 26th blog. I am 4 weeks behind but I will eventually catch up.
  7. On June 4th, 2023, I decided that I will hit the gym 3 times a week. It has been exactly 2 months since that date and I have been following this value. Thanks to my brother, my friend Utsav who always makes sure we go to the gym together. If we miss 1 workout out of the initially planned 3 in that week, we make sure we go 4 times next week to make up for it.

These are the 5 values I am struggling with:
  1. I decided to keep the instagram app deleted from my phone and only check it during Sunday as sometimes I found myself endlessly scrolling & not realizing that an hour has gone by when I was busy watching stupid memes. I am not so disciplined with it and I need to improve.
  2. I promised myself not to use any Social Media app during my work hours (8:00 am - 16:00 pm), even during breaks. So far I would catch myself sometimes on twitter and I need to become better at controlling myself.
  3. I made a plan to invest a small % of my salary every month but I have been failing at it miserably. I suffered a huge loss of 1600 dollars (it's a lot for me) when I bought Facebook stocks in October 2021. By now, most of it is recovered as I did not panic sell, but that incident scared me so much that I stopped learning about investing and I started only saving.
  4. I was determined to eat 6 days at home and only once a week outside, but I am struggling a lot with it due to bad planning and lack of skills to do a healthy meal prep.
  5. I had a goal to upload 1 youtube video a week in 2023 but I failed at it due to an exam I have on November 18th, 2023. I decided to go all in for that exam and keep Youtube aside. In short, my Youtube dream for this year is a huge failure on my part.

I would love to know what are the values you live by and what are the values you're struggling with?

Feel free to reply to my email or comment here on this blog by logging in to my website. I would really love to know!

See you next week.
